THE WORLD OF "PLEIN AIR" PAINTING

Since I work for a company called “Judsons Plein Air Outfitters”, I have become interested in the art movement that we cater towards. The phrase “en plein air” is French for “in the open air”. Plein Air painters work outdoors and finish the majority of their artwork on site. Certain aspects of this art style, such as gawking tourists and rapidly changing patterns of light, add to the fun of it all.

Here is a sample of a small painting I completed “en plein air”. It portrays a quaint little dress shop in the main square of my town. I was drawn to the scene for the fun colors and figurative shapes of the manequins in the window. “Dresses For Sale” is in the private collection of Laura Brendt.
